Sonday Collaboration

LAKE COUNTY, CALIF. (June 16, 2022) - The Lake County Special Education Local Planning Area (SELPA) joined Upper Lake Elementary and Lakeport Elementary for a Sonday System Essentials training from June 9 - 10, 2022.

Upper Lake Elementary hosted the training. A total of 18 kindergarten through fifth grade and Specialized Academic Instruction (SPED) educators participated.

The Sonday System Essentials provides phonics instruction to classrooms and distance learning settings to get students reading at or above grade level.

The Sonday System Essentials is supported by the National Center for Literacy, National Center for Learning Disabilities, the International Dyslexia Association and Reading First offices.

Each Sonday System Essentials kit contains 180 mini-lessons that are 20 minutes long.

The Upper Lake Elementary School will begin its second year of fully implementing the Sonday System Essentials. The participating students have progressed in phonics, decoding skills and structured literacy.

"We are excited to continue this learning journey with our fantastic team and solid curriculum," said Stephanie Wayment, Assistant Superintendent at Upper Lake Unified School District and Principal at Upper Lake Elementary School.

The Lake County SELPA provides special education services for children residing within Lake County.
