Coping Resources

May 26, 2022
I have needed time to process the tragic shooting of 19 fourth-grade students and two teachers on May 24th in Texas.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the families, students, teachers, and community members of Robb Elementary School, as well as the education community as a whole. We are all deeply impacted by the horrific violence that spreads onto school grounds, ending the innocence of childhood while sending shock waves through the nation.
Through this collective shock and grief, we must all press on to support our students, our families, our colleagues, and ourselves. Please act with sensitivity, compassion, and empathy as you engage in conversations in the coming days. Please work with courage as we all come together to end senseless violence on school campuses.
As we close out the school year, please remember that schools are safe places within our community where children learn, grow, and thrive. Children will hear about this most recent tragedy. Some children and adults may be triggered or impacted by what they hear. There will be questions and a need to talk about what has happened.
We have put together these helpful resources to help as you assist children and families through this difficult conversation. There are also resources to assist each of us as we cope with our own feelings.
I appreciate and care for each and every one of you. Your safety, as well as the safety of our children, both physically and emotionally, is of the utmost importance.
Be Safe.
