Sixteen (16) high school seniors from across Lake County and their parents participated in the orientation for our first Lake County Youth Construction Corps program on January 14, 2019 in Kelseyville.
Over the next several months, the students will meet weekly to learn about the variety of jobs available in construction industry, learn the skills required for those jobs, and earn industry certifications.
The experience will culminate in a two-week boot camp this summer in which students will complete a real construction project and earn a $750 stipend. Students will also earn two college work experience credits.
The Youth Construction Corps is dedicated to providing a pipeline directly to employment in the construction industry, and students will participate in an interview event with local employers on the last day of the program.
We are grateful to the North Coast Builders Exchange for bringing this opportunity to Lake County. The program is modeled after other successful Youth Construction Corps chapters in Mendocino, Sonoma, Napa and Marin Counties.
