Medical Assistant Program
The Lake County Office of Education offers a course designed to train you to become a Medical Assistant (MA). Upon successful completion of the program, graduates receive a certificate of completion and are eligible to take the national certification exam.
What Is a Medical Assistant (MA)?
Medical Assistants work alongside physicians and other healthcare professionals in medical offices and clinics. They perform administrative and clinical duties, from greeting patients and taking vital signs to performing lab tests and EKGs.
Why Become a Medical Assistant?
This is an in-demand career with many jobs available. There are an estimated 140 Medical Assistant new and replacement job openings in Mendocino and Lake Counties (2018, Economic Modeling Specialist, Intl.)
The average salary for Certified Medical Assistants upon program completion and certification is currently $15 - $19 an hour in Lake and Mendocino counties.
Medical Assistants often go on to become Licensed Vocational Nurses and/or Registered Nurses, and even Physicians’ Assistants.
The MA Program is offered once each year, from Fall-Spring (Sept-May).
Our application period for the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 MA Program has come to a close.
Information and applications for our Fall 2021-Spring 2022 MA Program will be available in Spring 2021.
