Safe Choices, Strong Community Events
On behalf of the Lake County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), we are excited to announce our upcoming initiative, Safe Choices, Strong Community, designed to promote safety, inclusion, and positive development for students with disabilities across our county. This initiative brings together schools, families, first responders, and community partners to create engaging, educational events that build skills, trust, and awareness in a safe and supportive environment.
As a valued community partner, we invite your organization to join us in making these opportunities truly impactful through sponsorship. Your support will directly contribute to the development and implementation of our overall goal of creating a more inclusive community in Lake County. Activities and events beginning in Spring of 2026 include:
- Interactive Safety Education for School-Age Students with Disabilities
- Provide hands-on learning experiences led by first responders, focusing on emergency response, fire, water, and personal safety skills.
- Foster collaboration among families, schools, and local agencies to strengthen community connections and promote inclusive safety awareness.
- Sensitivity Support Bags
- Develop and distribute resource bags containing practical tools and materials to help first responders engage respectfully, effectively, and confidently with individuals of diverse abilities during both emergency and everyday interactions.
- Safety Personnel Workshop Day
- Designed to equip first responders—including law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch, and water safety personnel—with practical strategies to support individuals with disabilities. Led by experts and advocates, the workshop covers disability awareness, inclusive communication, sensory sensitivities, and de-escalation approaches.
By partnering with the Lake County SELPA, your organization will help support students with disabilities and promote a safe, inclusive community. Sponsors will be recognized in event materials and social media for their commitment to youth and families. Join us in this effort to give students the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to make safe choices and build strong connections. As we are a public agency please note that donations are not tax deductible.
