Early Education Grant
The Lake County Office of Education has partnered with the Placer County Office of Education for an Early Education Teacher Development Grant.
The goal of the grant is to increase the number of highly qualified early education individuals to serve in Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), and Kindergarten (K) classrooms.
College tuition support is available for:
- Existing Credentialed Teachers
- Support in obtaining 24 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units to teach TK
- Existing non-credentialed early childhood educators
- Support to earn a Bachelor's degree, Multiple Subject Credential, or P-3 credential (preschool - 3rd grade)
- Support toward earning additional ECE units for Child Development Permits
- Others who are interested in a career in Early Childhood Education
Total funding includes:
- Up to $2,800/participant/ Spring 2025 for tuition toward Bachelor's degree or Teacher Credential.
- Up to $375/participant/ Spring 2025 for tuition toward Early Childhood Education (ECE) units
- Local support: books
- Candidates are responsible for remaining tuition costs
Additional Reimbursements:
- Even if you are not taking courses currently you can still apply for these additional reimbursements:
- Textbooks
- Student Teaching
- RICA/CSET test preparation courses
- Credential/permit application reimbursement.
The amount of funding is annual and follows a fiscal year calendar.

Can I apply if I am not yet enrolled in college?
Yes, you may apply for this grant while applying to colleges and universities for Spring 2025.
Can I apply if I have other scholarships or grants?
Yes, you may apply as long as you disclose the other funding you are receiving. You will be required to provide proof of what financial aid paid for as well as what payment you made for tuition to receive this money.
Can I use this money for books or other school expenses?
No, this money is only available as a reimbursement or direct payment for tuition. If accepted, we will provide additional applications for textbooks, student teaching, RICA/CSET test preparation courses, and/or credential/permit application reimbursement.
How does funding work to pay the tuition?
If selected as a recipient of the Early Education Teacher Development (EETD) Grant, there are a couple of options for the funding.
- You may apply this funding to any accredited college or university that you plan to enroll in. You will pay for units, and upon satisfactory completion and meeting agreed-upon terms, will be reimbursed for the agreed-upon amount.
- If you would like to have your program receive your funding directly, below is program information for colleges in contract with our agency.

- UMass: ECE Units, BA & Multiple Subject Credential
Multiple Subject Credential Programs
- Placer County: PK-3 Credential Intern Program
- Teach Lake County: Intern Multiple Subject Credential
- UMass: ECE Units, BA & Multiple Subject Credential
What is the pathway to becoming a teacher?
Elementary School (Multiple Subject Credential)

Once you have your High School Diploma, you will need to complete an Associate (A.A./A.S.) Degree and then a Bachelor (B.A/B.S.) degree, or may choose to enroll in a B.A. program immediately.
- An A.A. degree is generally about the first 60 units of a B.A. degree and completed at a community college such as Woodland or Mendocino Community College.
- A B.A. degree is generally about 120 units (can transfer about 60 units from A.A.) and completed at a 4-year college or university.
- After you attain a Bachelor’s you can be a:
- Substitute Teacher

- Classroom Teacher
- Apply for the teaching position you are interested in on Edjoin.org
- Once you are hired, the district will get a permit to allow you to teach prior to attaining a credential.
- You will then enroll in an Intern Credential Program and will complete coursework.
- Student Teacher
- Apply for the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential program you would like.
- Complete Coursework and student teaching hours.
