TO TEACH. TO SERVE. TO LEARN.

Gena Obaza

1st Grade | Lower Lake Elementary School | Konocti Unified School District

Gena Obaza has taught for 6 years, with 3 years being at Lower Lake Elementary.

Obaza was inspired to teach by educators who supported her own academic struggles and reminded her that effort matters. She now strives to offer that same encouragement to her students.

Obaza completed a competitive Early Completion Program for induction, demonstrating mastery in instructional skills. She later became a mentor after learning how selective the program truly was.

Her classroom day begins with active, engaging calendar work and journal writing designed to sharpen critical thinking. Students participate in rotations focused on phonics, leveled reading, and creative expression through Reader’s Theatre and other activities.

Obaza fosters an inclusive classroom where individualized goals and the "power of yet" help students of all abilities achieve success.

She incorporates movement, collaboration, and creativity into lessons to encourage critical thinking and to celebrate diverse strengths.

Obaza balances high academic expectations with nurturing support, helping her first graders often exceed grade-level standards while feeling deeply cared for.

She continually refines her teaching through professional development and mentoring, inspiring growth among both students and fellow educators.

She profoundly impacts students by pairing academic rigor with emotional support, fostering both achievement and self-worth.

Families praise her dedication, communication, and the safe, capable environment she creates for every child.

Obaza brings warmth, integrity, and inspiration to every interaction, making others proud to be part of education.
