ROP In Lake County
The Lake County Office of Education operates the Regional Occupational Program in Lake County. Career preparation training is offered in many relevant career fields.
Secondary programs are offered at most Lake County high schools. Students take sequences of courses during high school to prepare them to take ROP courses. These are traditionally taken during a student’s junior or senior year to complete the career preparation for which the sequence was designed. ROP classes at the secondary level focus on skills needed to prepare students to enter the workforce or to continue training at a technical school, community college or university. Many of our classes are articulated with the local community college as well.
Pathways are being developed at the secondary level to enhance the career preparation programs available to students at the high-school level. A career pathway will consist of a sequence of classes leading to an industry certification or leading into a post secondary program that allows the student to continue their studies in that pathway.
A small number of pathway grants were awarded by the California Department of Education in April of 2007 and Lake County ROP was fortunate enough to be one of sixteen programs chosen for funding to begin a Health Science Pathway at Clear Lake High School.
More pathways are currently being developed for secondary programs. Additional funding may be available from the California Department of Education in the future to support development of high-priority pathways.
