Medical Assistant classes start September 5, 2017

The Lake County Office of Educaiton Career & College Readiness Department offers the nine month Medical Assistant program. This course prepares and qualifies the students for certification in the full scope of practice as a Medical Assistant. To prepare for certifiation status, experience is needed, thus, an externship is arranged with doctors' offices or clinics (Jan-May). Duties include answerig telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records, completing insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging hospital admissions and lab service, performing billing and book keeping. An MA also collects and/or prepares lab specimens, sterilizes medical instrucments, prepares and admisters medications as directed, autorizes drug refills, telephones prescriptions to a pharmacy, draw blood, prepares patients for x-rays, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures and change dressing. 

In order to be considered for admission to the program your application packet and a $20 application fee must be submitted in person to Tammy Serpa at the Hance Education Center located in the back portable at 1510 Argonaut Rd in Lakeport. Applications will be received by appointment only. At this appointment students will take a short reading, writing, math assessment as well as write a short essay. Upon completion, students will be scheduled an interview time for August 14th. We will interview approximately 30 applicants, only 24 will be accepted into the program. Upon acceptance, students will be given further instructions for drug screening, fingerprinting and submission of balance of course fee.
