TENTATIVE - School Begins - Upper Lake Unified School District

August 22, 2018  |  Upper Lake, California

Due to emergency conditions caused by the Mendocino Complex Fires, the start of school will be delayed. A tentative start date of 8/22/18 has been discussed. Please check back after the 8/14/18 School Board Meeting to see if there are additional changes.

Message from Upper Lake Unified School District Leadership on August 7, 2018.

"Hello Upper Lake Unified School District families, staff and communities. This has been a devastating fire for all of us; the intent of this message is to share current actions of the ULUSD board and leadership focusing on our start of the 2018-2019 school year.

When our students return to school they will be greeted with a clean campus and classrooms to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone on campus thanks to a specialized disaster clean up company focusing on smoke complications. We will not start until the campus has been thoroughly cleaned and evaluated for safety.

At the special ULUSD Board meeting on August 7 at 9:00 am, the board agreed to a delay to the start of school by at least 1 week.

The target start date will be August 22, 2018 to allow families and evacuated staff an additional week to focus on their family, and return home. The ULUSD board will meet again next Tuesday and can re-evaluate this target if necessary.

We will start the year focusing on strength and emotional and social well-being of our staff and students. This will be a welcome return to normalcy after all the disruption and evacuations. We look forward to seeing all of our #upperlakestrong community."
