Provide your child a foundation for learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fundamentals using LEGO Mindstorms NXT!
This workshop will introduce 9 to 16-year olds 21st century skill sets in a fun and team-oriented way. Students will understand structural building concepts using LEGOs, build and program unique robots to accomplish missions.
The workshop will be conducted by an award-winning robotics team from Folsom, CA. Saiyeesh Rathish and Akshay Rathish. You can learn more about the team at http://www.phoenxtrix.org/and http://www.gatorobytes.org/
Note:
- $7/person includes an afternoon snack and beverages
- The robot kits are on loan. Therefore students will not be able to take their LEGO creations home.

Lake County's Window to the Universe is held on the third Saturday of each month. The evening's event includes a Science topic presentation, a Full Dome Theater experience and astronomical viewing. Join us as our guest presenter, Stephen Pollaine, explains "Humanity's Place in the Universe". Dr. Pollaine has a Ph.D. in astrophysics from U.C. Berkeley, and a B.S. from Yale. He worked for more than 30 years at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in fusion energy research. He is now retired and living in Loch Lomond.

Audience: New principals, practicing principals, co-principals, assistant principals, aspiring principals, other site administrators
The Lake County Office of Education is planning to present four of the ten modules between March-August 2012. All modules include the following components:
- An examination of current literature and research in the session topic;
- Interactive practice using management and leadership tools; and
- Time to plan for implementation of new knowledge and skills with peers.
The first two modules, Supervision: Formative Assessment; and Evaluation: Summative Assessment will be presented on March 13 and March 20, 2012. The third module, to be determined based upon input from participants, will be held in June. The fourth module, Using Data, will be presented in August following the release of STAR test data.

Youth Summit: Stand Up Against Bullying

The PG&E Solar Schools Program and the NEED Project are excited to announce the upcoming PG&E Solar Schools Workshop. Classroom teachers (K-12) have the unique opportunity to learn about solar energy in a fun and exciting way! Directions will be sent with registration confirmation.
Thanks to PG&E's sponsorship, there is no cost to attend the workshop. A $100 stipend will be offered for attending K-12 educators. Breakfast and lunch are included.
The NEED Project's mission is to promote an energy conscious and educated society. NEED is the nation's leading provider of energy education programs and materials to schools. All NEED learning activities are correlated to California science objectives and many others. The program will make teaching energy fun and exciting as you return to your classroom. Participation in this workshop provides educators with free NEED Science of Energy Kit that teaches the concepts of force, motion, light, sound, heat, electricity, magnetism and energy transformations through hands-on activities. Educators will also receive a grade-level specific NEED Solar Energy Hands-On Kit. Additional curriculum materials to teach about energy and energy resources will be provided.

The Lunchtime Learning sessions offer short, local training opportunities for professional staff and community members in Lake County. The Children's Council is sponsoring the sessions, in a continuing effort to prevent child abuse and neglect and keep our children safe at home and in our communities. The topics will be child and youth focused and open to the public. The trainers will be from Lake County, as well as visiting presenters from out of county. The sessions are free and held during a lunch break, so bring a bag lunch - some light refreshments will be provided. Most of the trainings will be held at Lake County Office of Education in the Kesey Room.
